In this tutorial I will show you how to draw a simple seascape with soft pastels. I am using ingres paper (it’s the kind of pastel paper that has a linear texture to it) and soft pastels by different artist brands. I treat water as a layered cake.
If you look at it as if it’s an abstract thing and not a body of water you will see the clear layers of value, some darker, some lighter. It’s also useful to squint to see these value relationships in the reference.
As usual, I blend the first layers and then leave texture of the subsequent ones.
