In this video I will show you how to use an underpainting with soft pastels and water on a sanded surface to paint a sea wave.
I really like the photo that I foudn on pixabay for this tutoril. The wave looks as if it’s glowing from within. And this was my main focus – to portray that glow. I am using sandpaper, 800 grit, and soft pastels and water for the underpainting.
For the foam I have different colors for the areas that are in the shadow of the wave itself and for the highlighted areas. In the end I add the foam spatter by scumbling the pastel with my nail and then rolling the pencil over the dust, thus creating an interesting mark.
